Partners since the early 2000s, the Institut Fresnel and the company CILAS signed a framework agreement in January 2014, formalizing and strengthening their long-standing collaboration.
Within this framework, the Joint Laboratory for Optical Coatings (LABTOP) was established, focusing on R&D activities related to interference optical filters. Current research topics include the metrology of components under high-power CW lasers, the development of depolarizing metasurfaces, and the control of emissivity in thin-film components. Several PhD students have contributed to these areas and continue to work on them today.
LABTOP does not have its own dedicated facilities; instead, it relies on the equipment of both CILAS and the Institut Fresnel. The Institut Fresnel brings recognized expertise in optical thin films as well as a state-of-the-art technological platform, the Photonics Facility, dedicated to the design, fabrication, and characterization of multilayer optical components. CILAS, for its part, contributes its industrial expertise in applying thin-film technologies to practical applications.
