Dr Christoph Gerhard, from the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Gottingen – Germany and invited professor at the LP3 Marseille will be visiting our institut and give a seminar entitled “Impact of classical and novel manufacturing methods on the surface state of optics” on Friday 29th of November at 09:30 a.m. in our Pierre Cotton’s room.
Biography : Christoph Gerhard is full professor at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Göttingen, Germany and adjunct professor at the Politecnico di Milano in Milan, Italy. After his apprenticeship as an optics technician and working experience in optics manufacturing, he studied Precision Manufacturing Technology as well as Optical Engineering/Photonics. In 2014, he received his PhD in Engineering Physics. After a Postdoc period with Fraunhofer Society, he became a full professor in 2016.
Abstract : In the course of the seminar, he will present his research, covering the investigation of properties of glass surfaces and interactions of glasses with surrounding media during manufacturing. He will moreover introduce his work on plasma- and laser-induced glass surface modification, e.g., for increasing the laser-induced damage threshold or stability and reliability of optical components.
