Wave propagation in guiding structures

The main objective of this conference is to bring together leading experts and promising young researchers working in mathematical physics in the field of wave propagation in guiding structures. This project encompasses both relativistic and non-relativistic quantum waves, as well as acoustic and electromagnetic waves. A comprehensive understanding of this domain requires expertise in various fields of mathematics such as spectral theory, differential geometry, asymptotic analysis, as well as numerical analysis.

The proposed program will focus on the following themes :

• Propagation of acoustic and electromagnetic waves in complex guiding structures
• Guided propagation for both relativistic and non-relativistic scenarios
• Photonic crystals

This conference aims to bring together multiple communities and disciplines : pure mathematicians, applied mathematicians, and physicists, around this subject ranging from quantum physics to classical waves with spectral theory as a common denominator. The questions that arise in these communities, although disconnected from a physical point of view, are actually very close from a mathematical perspective.
The connection between pure mathematicians and physicists will be strengthened by the presence of applied mathematicians and mathematical physicists who have a foot in both worlds. Such a meeting will create a real transfer of knowledge and generate numerous collaborations between pure and applied sciences.
From a local perspective, this conference will highlight one of the themes supported by the interdisciplinary project AMIDEX « Propagation in Twisted Waveguides » in which three of the organizers are involved : Maxence Cassier (PI, Fresnel Institute), Philippe Briet (member, CPT), and Thomas Ourmières-Bonafos (member, I2M).
This meeting will also be an opportunity to expand the collaboration networks of the participants : internationally renowned speakers from Europe, the USA, and South America have agreed to participate, and we hope that this will facilitate the weaving and strengthening of connections between various geographical and thematic communities working independently on related subjects.
