{"id":3846,"date":"2025-02-04T16:18:28","date_gmt":"2025-02-04T15:18:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.fresnel.fr\/wp\/?post_type=publication&#038;p=3846"},"modified":"2025-04-01T16:35:20","modified_gmt":"2025-04-01T14:35:20","slug":"samples-from-the-thin-film-optics-team-on-board-the-iss","status":"publish","type":"publication","link":"https:\/\/www.fresnel.fr\/wp\/en\/publication\/samples-from-the-thin-film-optics-team-on-board-the-iss\/","title":{"rendered":"Samples on board the ISS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Samples from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fresnel.fr\/wp\/en\/rcmo\/team\/\">Thin Film Optics team<\/a> on board the ISS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Thin-Film research team of Institut Fresnel&#8217;s has supplied a set of multilayer treatments (mirrors and anti-reflective coatings) which have been integrated into the <a href=\"https:\/\/cnes.fr\/actualites\/ema-mesurer-vieillissement-materiaux-lespace-liss\"><strong>CNES <\/strong><\/a>EMA (Euro Material Ageing) experiment<\/p>\n<p>These samples left on November 4, 2024 aboard <strong>SpaceX-31<\/strong> and have been in space since December 16, just outside the International Space Station.<\/p>\n<p>The SESAME (Space Environment Study of Ageing of MatErials) study involves analyzing the in-flight behavior of materials and measuring environmental parameters (atomic oxygen, ultraviolet radiation, radiation).<\/p>\n<p>CNES engineers and their partners will be able to use these samples to analyze how different materials behave when directly exposed to space. Initial stack properties (spectral response, stresses, etc.) will be compared with those measured after flight.
