2000: Creation of the Fresnel Institute

2000-2003 : First Period

Staff : average of 1st January 2003, 92 person
Budget : 850 k € to 2,874 k €

2004-2007 : Second Period
2005 : Workforce Consolidation on a single site (ENSPM building) with the support of the Rector and the University. Phase 1 of the building renovation with funding from the CNRS, the University and the FEDER

2005 : Creation of GIS "Advanced Photonics and Instrumentation" with 2 labs : LAM and LP3

2007 : Start of Phase 2 of building renovations (CNRS, University, FEDER)

Staff : average of 1st January 2007, 131 person
Budget : approximately € 2 millions per year

2008-2011 : Third Period

2008 : the staff is grouped in the current building of the lab.

Sept. 2010 : The Fresnel Institute became coordinator (carrying establishment Aix-Marseille University), with the participation of Centrale Marseille and other laboratories (LP3, LAM & PIIM) of the Europhotonics-POESII Program.

April 2010 : beginning of construction of the Photonic Space

Staff : average of 1st January 2011, 152 person
Budget : approximately € 2,8 millions per year

2012-2016 : Fourth Period

2014-2015 : Inauguration of Photonic Space, a project developed since 2005 (building & aquipment) with the "Contrat de Plan État Région" (State Plan Area Agreement).

Staff : average on 1st January 2016, 171 person
Budget : 12.6M € per year
