Aims and scopes

The school will cover all theoretical and experimental aspects of nonlinear optical microscopy and especially Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering (CARS) microscopy. The school is organized by the EU-COST action MP0603 entitled "Chemical imaging by means of CARS-microscopy (MicroCARS)". Contributions of members of this scientific network or others scientists from all over the world are particularly welcomed to highlight emerging CARS technical developments and their applications in biomedical research, material science, and engineering.

The main objective of MicroCARS 2009 fall school is to provide PhD-students and post-docs starting in the field of nonlinear optical microscopy with the basic background required to understand nonlinear optics in general and CARS microscopy in particular. Thus a series of tutorials will be organized and will be given by experts in the field.

Another important aspect of this school is also to present recent technological developments, new scientific results and applications in the highly active area of nonlinear optical microscopy with a special attention on the emerging field of CARS microscopy. Thus, after the microCARS 2008 conference held in Igls, Austria, we encourage the participation of all researchers working in the field, and we encourage the submission of scientific contributions that intend to bring CARS microscopy to the next technological level.

Registration & Fees

Registration fees will be paid by credit card, cash or proforma invoice at the conference center after arrival.

The school fees include shuttle transfer from/to Ajaccio airport, accomodation in the conference center or in the village of Cargese (6 nights), lunches, coffee breaks, and the conference dinner.

Registration fees
Academic researchers 250 €
PhD students* 150 €
MC meeting only 150 €
Commercial institution 500 €

* PhD students will be accomodated in twin rooms.

The annual management committee meeting is planned during the MicroCARS 2009 fall school. In order to validate the attendance lists and to improve the organization, MC members are invited to register as "Academic researchers" or "MC meeting only" depending on the wish to join the school or not.

Application for COST student grant is close. Due to the number of applications the organizing committee has decided to reduce the grant amount to 520euros in order to allow maximum students to join the school. A list of eligible students has been transmitted to cost management committee for official validation considering some cost institution rules. Applicants will be informed as soon as possible.

  • Notification of acceptance was send August the 13th.

For fruitful interactions during the school, the organizing committee invites all participants to present their works and to contribute to the school. Talk and Poster session are plan the evenings. Abstract template is available on the page.

Call for abstract

Participants are invited to submit abstracts on new research in Raman / CARS microscopy. The topic should be presented as a poster at the school. Based on the abstracts a few contributions will be selected for oral presentation. The abstract should be prepared according to the abstract guideline below.

It should be submitted using the abstract submission form available HERE. It could also be send by e-mail as a .pdf or .doc document to microcars2009@fresnel.fr before the deadline (20th July 2009).
