The next seminar of our Nanophotonics & Components theme will take place on Tuesday September 6th afternoon in Pierre Cotton’s room.
We will welcome two invited speakers from CSIR - Central Scientific Instruments Organisation, Chandigarh India.

At 13:45 Samir K. Mondal will give a seminar on "Optical fiber tip-an inovative platform for advanced photonics research".

Abstract : Optical fiber has been proven to be very promising platform for numerous optical instrumentation and fundamental research due to its excellent light guiding capacity. Structural and functional manipulation of optical fiber and its optical properties are at the core of such developments. One such example is restructuring of optical fiber tip and manipulating its optics. Development of special optical antenna and axicon at optical fiber tip worth to be explored and will be introduced in this seminar. Further the optics with special optical elements and their application in beam shaping, optical trapping/tweezing, imaging and optical fiber instrumentation will be discussed in details with experimental examples.

At 14:40, Sanjeev Soni will give a seminar on "Plasmonic photothermal phenomenon for biomedical applications".

Abstract : Plasmonic photothermal phenomenon involves generation of highly confined heat through use of metallic nanoparticles and electromagnetic radiation. My research group works on biomedical applications of this phenomenon with focus on translation for plasmonic photothermal cancer therapeutics, plasmonic photothermal enhanced antimicrobial efficacy and, plasmonic photothermal modulated drug delivery. For these applications, I will discuss our work towards the pre-treatment planning computations (coupled phenomenon of Plasmonics, Biophotonics, Bioheat Transfer), photothermal response of nanoparticle aggregates as well as in-vitro / in-vivo experiments.

Samir Mondal and Sanjeev Soni will stay in the Fresnel Institute until September 14th, hosted by Stefan Enoch, so feel free to aproach us if you want to discuss your research and possible collaborations.
