Laurent Gallais, Professor at Ecole Centrale Marseille

5 august 2022

Born in 1976, I received an engineering degree from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Physique in 1999, a D.E.A. (research master) in 1999 from the University of Aix-Marseille (AMU) and a PhD in physics in 2002 from AMU. Since 2003, I have been "Maitre de Conférences" (Associate Professor) at Ecole Centrale Marseille where I was appointed full professor in 2018. I teach in the field of Photonics. My research activities, carried out at the Fresnel Institute since 1999, focus on laser-matter interactions and allowed me to obtain the habilitation to supervise research (HDR) in 2011.
My expertise is in the field of laser damage of optical components, for which I have been involved in various research programs and projects dedicated to the development of optical components with high laser damage resistance for high-power laser facilities, industrial developments and collaborative academic projects.
I also carry out activities related to the development of laser processes, in particular for the study of materials under extreme conditions for needs related to fission and fusion. In this context, I hold the "MATLASE" chair (Study of high temperature MATerials using LASEr technologies) at the Ecole Centrale Marseille.
