MEMO-2022 is an in-person conference organized by Aix Marseille Univerité OPTICA student chapter association

The topic of this first conference is Bio-Imaging. The target audience is Ph.D. students, post-docs and early career researchers. This event is an opportunity for optic / physics researchers working on the applied biological field, and for biologists who use optics in their daily research, to meet, exchange and plan future collaborations.

There will be two keynote speakers, multiple invited short talks by researchers and post-docs, and a poster session is open to all Ph.D. students and post-docs.

More info and registration go to https://memo-2022.sciencesconf.org

There are No Registration Fees. Lunch, snacks and coffee will be provided to participants.

MEMO will have 2 invited speakers during Institut Fresnel PhD Days on Thursday, June 2.
The PhD Days will take place on June 1 & 2 at the Club Mileades de Carry Le Rouet.

Charlie BARLA, AMU – "Ecosystème d’innovation gravitant autour de la CISAM"
Manon BOURBOUSSON, SATT S-E - "Présentation et sensibilisation à la PI"

Antoine MOREAU, from Institut Pascal, and Christophe MICHEL, from LMA, will give an Hybrid seminar/webinar about Optical thin film coating this 29th of March 2022 at the Fresnel Institute in the Pierre Cotton room and on Zoom at 15:15.

Antoine MOREAU is a known expert on optical nano structures. He analyses biological samples to test optimization algorithms. You can find more information in the following article https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-68719-3. He is also known for his skills in popular science, you can find his website dedicated to this topic : http://www.e-scio.net. His presentation will be entitled : "Multilayer structures : an ideal playground for optimization algorithms."

Christophe MICHEL will give a talk in-person at the Fresnel Institute and his talk will also be broadcast on zoom. Christophe is head of the operations at the LMA. Currently, all the interferometers that measured gravitational waves are equipped with mirrors build at the LMA. Their expertise in thin-film manufacturing is recognized worldwide. Christophe’s presentation is entitled : "Optical components : Clearly define your specifications in order to choose the most suitable coating technique."

The next MEMO Webinar will be on Thursday, the 24th of MARCH, 2:00 pm (GMT+1) on "Recent Advances in Measuring Tissue Biomechanics Using Optical Coherence Elastography".

PhD Fernando Zvietcovich, who is currently a postdoctoral fellow at VioBio Lab at Daza de Valdes Institute of Optics in Madrid will give this seminar in the Pierre Cotton room or you can join us via ZOOM https://bit.ly/MEMO-OCE

Abstract
Optical coherence elastography (OCE) has become one of the major and the most studied functional modalities of optical coherence tomography (OCT), producing a fundamental impact in the quantitative and nondestructive biomechanical characterization of tissues. Succeeding previous progress made in ultrasound and magnetic resonance elastography ; OCE has pushed to the limit the advance of three major pillars : (a) implementation of novel mechanical excitation methods in tissues, (b) understanding new types of mechanical parameters in complex boundary conditions by proposing advance analytical and numerical models, and (c) the development of novel estimators capable of retrieving quantitative 2D/3D biomechanical information of tissues. This progress promoted a major advance in answering basic science questions and the improvement of medical disease diagnosis and treatment monitoring in several types of tissues leading, ultimately, to the first attempts of clinical trials and translational research aiming to have OCE working in clinical environments. This talk summarizes the fundamental up-to-date principles and categories of OCE, revises the timeline and the state-of-the-art techniques and applications lying in those categories, and concludes with a discussion on the current challenges and future directions, including clinical translation research.

Biography
Fernando Zvietcovich, BSc in Electrical Engineering, MSc in Digital Image and Signal Processing (Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru), and PhD in Electrical Engineering (University of Rochester, NY, USA), has recently joined the VioBio Lab at the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC, Madrid) within the framework of the IMCUSTOMEYE project funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 Programme. Fernando’s research includes novel wave-based optical coherence elastography methods in soft tissues for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of diseases in clinical environments. Fernando was the past holder of the 2020 SPIE-Franz Hillenkamp Postdoctoral Fellowship in Problem-Driven Biomedical Optics and Analytics. He is currently working at VioBio-CSIC on translating optical coherence elastography, developed and designed for the non-invasive quantification of corneal spatial biomechanical properties in 3D, into the in vivo clinical use for human ocular disease diagnostics.

FREE ACCESS - The seminar should last around one hour including questions from the public.

Webinar on "Transfer of technologies" on Wednesday 19th of May 2021 at 13:30 by Florent MARTIN, Head of Communications at SATT Sud-Est.

The SATT Sud-Est, “the technology transfer accelerator", is a privileged interface between business and public research in the PACA and Corsica regions. Its core business is the maturation of inventions from the regional research laboratories on the legal (intellectual property), economic (market) and technological (technological maturation) levels.

Florent MARTIN will talk about the action of SATT through real life examples ; it’ll be a very good oppurtunity to ask questions.

- Join via the link : http://bit.ly/MEMO-Webinar-SATT

The event should end around 2:30 p.m. and is open to anyone interested in the topic.

Feel free to extend this invitation to your colleagues and students.

Webinar “Demystifying the Publishing Process” given by Prof. Miguel ALONSO, who currently is editor-in-chief of Optics Letters, will be on Tuesday, the 16th of February at 02:00 pm .

Webinar “ Infectious diseases : How can photonics help in research and diagnosis ? ” on Friday the 17th of April 2021, at 2:45 pm in the webinar’s virtual space.

We will look at this question from different points of view with Luca Murer (Ph.D. student at the University of Zurich), Sébastien Lyonnais (Since 3 years working in CEMIPAI (Centre d’Etude des Maladies Infectieuses et Pharmacologie Anti-Infectieuse), Montpellier), Guillermo Acuna (group leader in Fribourg University since 2018), and Stephan Amann (Master student in physics at TU Darmstadt as well as working student in Zeiss’ Semiconductor Manufacturing Technologies R&D department).
