Prof. Stefano Maci, Department of Information Engineering and Mathematics, University of Siena will give a seminar “Metasurface Antennas : basic principle, design and applications” on Thursday, June 28th, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. in Room Pierre Cotton, Institut Fresnel, Marseille.

Abstract :
Metasurfaces (MTS) are constituted by sub-wavelength patches printed on a thin, grounded or , dielectric substrate. The interaction of MTS with space-waves or surface-waves can lead to new antennas, lenses, and beam forming networks. The MTS is constituted by a periodic or pseudo-periodic repetition of a basic elements, each one much smaller than the desired shortest operational wavelength. The small patches depict the surface modulated impedance like pixels depict an image. The combination of a deeper theoretical understanding and a broader numerical assessment, overhaul the design methodology so as to improve the performance and increase the range of applicability of these devices. This talk will address the basic principle, the design and the possible applications of these antennas in the microwave to TeraHertz frequency range.
