Prof. Alexander Movchan, University of Liverpool will give a Seminar "Scattering and localisation of flexural waves by semi-infinite clusters of scatterers in Kirchhoff plates" on Monday, March 21 at 10:00 a.m. in Pierre Cotton Room (Institut Fresnel, Campus St Jérôme, Marseille)

Abstract: The talk addresses a problem of scattering if plane flexural waves by a semi-infinite cluster of rigid pins embedded into an elastic Kirchhoff plate. Mathematical model is reduced to a functional equation of the Wiener-Hopf type, and the kernel function of this equation contains information about the Bloch-Floquet waves in the infinite periodic structure. Special attention is given to localisation near the interface boundary separating the semi-infinite cluster of pins from the ambient homogeneous elastic plate. Analytical findings are accompanied by numerical simulations and examples. The talk is based on the results of the joint work with S. Haslinger, R. Craster, N. Movchan, I. Jones. The support from the EPSRC program grant EP/L024926/1 is gratefully acknowledged.
