Abstract : We present an accurate methodology for representing the physics of waves, for periodic structures, through effective properties for a replacement bulk medium : This is valid even for media with zero frequency stop-bands and where high frequency phenomena dominate. Since the work of Lord Rayleigh in 1892, low frequency (or quasi-static) behaviour has been neatly encapsulated in effective anisotropic media. (...)

(Archives) Seminar "Semi-Analytic Optimisation of Nanowire Arrays for Photovoltaics" by Björn Sturmberg on Friday 13th December, 10:00AM, Room Pierre Cotton
3 décembre 2013Abstract :
Although the demand for renewable energy is rapidly rising, and the supply of solar energy is truly abundant, the high cost of photovoltaic solar cells (PV) still limits their contribution to less than 0.5% the global energy mix. A design principle common to many next generation solar cells is the reduction of the cell thickness by 2 orders of magnitude, from 100 µm to 1 µm. This reduces costs, as each cell consumes less material, and this can be of lower purity. Nanowire (NW) (...) -
(Archives) Hoa Le Minh donnera un séminaire intitulé "Visible Light Communications - Possibilities and Challenges" le Mardi 3 Décembre à 13h30, Amphi Rouard
28 novembre 2013"Visible Light Communications - Possibilities and Challenges" le mardi 3 décembre à 13h30 en Amphithéâtre Rouard (Campus St Jérôme, Marseille)
Abstract : Solid state white LEDs have been attracting attention as the next generation of general illumination sources, set to replace existing fluorescent and incandescent lamps. A major driving force behind the movement is the LEDs improved efficiency, luminance and lifespan, when compared to alternatives. An equally important property of LEDs (...) -
(Archives) Séminaire de Cyriaque Genet "Surface plasmon optics : from negative refraction to designer force fields." le jeudi 23 janvier 2014 à 11h00 en salle Pierre Cotton.
28 novembre 2013Abstract :
Tailoring surface plasmons (SP) by controlling the design of metal surfaces at the nanometer scale has allowed addressing the intimate relation between the structures and the optical properties of coupled light. With the definition of plasmonic Bloch waves, it is possible to convey concepts from photonic crystals into SP optics. This can lead to the observation of negative refraction of SP beams and self-collimation effects. Optical forces are also generated by SP modes and (...) -

A Quantum Theory of the Biological Effects of Radio-frequencies and its application to Cancer

Abstract :
Looking at the smallest scale, it is has become commonplace to detect single quantum emitters, such as dye molecules, quantum dots, diamond NV-centers and protein complexes, with applications in nano-imaging, sensing and quantum-optics. Now the challenge is to control their excitation and emission dynamics. In this (...) -
