Optical ptychography

In the optical regime, ptychography is becoming a new competitive microscopy method mostly thanks to its capability to image quantitatively the phase shift introduced by the sample.

Recently, we have addressed the issue of anisotropic samples, probed by polarized light. A vectorial propagation formalism was introduced to derive a phase retrieval algorithm aiming at reconstructing the full polarization-related properties of an object (see figure), from measurements taken under an appropriate set of prepared and analyzed polarization states.

This opens new possibilities of imaging specimen having anisotropic properties, including birefringence or optical activity.
