D. Maystre was born in Frejus (France) on March 1945. He graduated from the Ecole Normale Supérieure de St-Cloud and received the Agregation of Physics in 1968. His thesis in 1974 at the University of Aix-Marseille was on the electromagnetic theory of diffraction gratings and applications.

 

               Since 1968, he is employed by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique where he is presently Director of Research. He is involved in theoretical, numerical and phenomenological studies of direct and inverse scattering problems in Optics and Electromagnetics, in particular on diffraction gratings, randomly rough surfaces, surface waves, enhanced backscattering, Anderson localization of light, photonic band gaps, radar detection. He has published about 180 papers, presented 110 communications, written 10 chapters in scientific books and edited two of them. He is the Director of the Laboratoire d'Optique Electromagnétique (University of Aix-Marseille and University of Provence, associated with CNRS) since 1988.

 

               D. Maystre received the Fabry de Grammont prize from the French committee of Optics in 1975 and more recently, he obtained the Scientific Philip Morris prize in 1998. He is a member of the Electromagnetics Academy (Cambridge, Ma) and of the editorial board of the Journal of Modern Optics (London, Rochester).
