Michel LEQUIME


Michel Lequime was born in Albi (France) in February 1952. He received his Master degree in Engineering from the Institut d'Optique Graduate School in 1974 and his Ph. D. degree from the University Paris-Sud Orsay in 1977. His doctoral research was devoted to the study of third-order non-linear optical processes at the picosecond scale, especially in one-dimensional conjugated polymers (Ecole Polytechnique, Laboratoire d'Optique Quantique). In 1979, he joined BERTIN, a french Contract Research Organization, for participating to the creation of an optical activity in this company: he was appointed first as Study Engineer, then Head of Department, and finally Head of Division. Its development activities dealt mainly with Space Optics and Optical Fiber Sensors. In 2000 he joined the Ecole Centrale Marseille as Professor of Optics and Project Management and he is today Head of the Optical Thin-Films Group at the Institut Fresnel.

Currently, his research interests concern the use of photosensitive materials in the manufacturing of optical interference coatings and the development of a spatial and angular resolved scatterometer for the comprehensive characterization of optical surfaces.


Pr. Lequime is credited with twenty five patents and more than one hundred publications and presentations in the areas of non-linear optics, space optics, fiber optic sensors, scattering phenomena and optical interference coatings. He is a member of the OSA and SPIE, and has served on the Board of the French Optical Society (SFO, 1993-95).
